Please read on to find the answers to some of the more commonly asked questions about owning a pet.

My pet has been vomiting for less than 24 hours.
First remove all food and water for at least 24 hours.  Allow your pet to lick from ice cubes to prevent dehydration.  If the vomiting does not recur, restart food and water in small increments.  If doing well, gradually increase the amount of food given until you reach their normal rations.  If vomiting persists over 24 hours, contact your vet as soon as possible.
I think my pet was stung by an insect.
Most dogs and cats respond to insect bites and stings with slight swelling and redness to affected area.  In some cases, a more generalized swelling, hives, or itching may occur and rarely, a severe reaction with difficulty breathing, collapse, or death.
1) If a stinger is present in the skin, remove it by scraping the skin or grabbing it with tweezers.
2) Pets with mild, localized reactions may have moist, warm compresses applied to relieve pain and an antihistamine can be given.
3) Pets showing more than a mild reaction should be examined.  Initial antihistamine dose can be given if transit time is greater than 15 minutes and swelling is increasing.
My dog ate chocolate.
As many of you know, chocolate is toxic to your dog but can ingested in small amounts without becoming lethal.  Baker's chocolate has ten times the concentration of theobromine, the stimulant agent in chocolate, as does milk chocolate.  Milk chocolate becomes dangerous if exceeding the amount of one ounce per pound of body weight.  Bakers chocolate is dangerous when exceeding one ounce per ten pounds of body weight.
What can I do about my pets shedding?
There is a product out on the market that can reduce excessive shedding without interfering with the natural shed cycle.Shed-Stop is a blend of minerals, oils, herbs, antioxidants, and vitamins that is added to your pet`s food once daily. This is available through most pet stores. Brushing your pet daily is very effective as well. you not only remove dead hair trapped in your pet's coat, but brushing also helps stimulate oil glands in the skin which keeps your pet's hair silky and healthy.
